           In the early middle ages nobles and knights where the ones with the power, as time passed the power began to shift. The power of two leaders popes and kings. Popes had great spirtal powerand kings had political power together they ruled.In the Middle Agespopes where the haed of the christian church because everybody in the middle ages belonged to the christian church the pope was the leader.  People saw the pope as a represtive of god. Because the pope was so admired he had to dicide what they would teach in the church. Even though the people of western europe considered the pope as the leader the people in the eastern Europe did not agree. The people in the eastern Europe thought that the bishops where the leaders. In the mid-1000sthe popes sought to increase their authority over eastern bishops.As popes worked to increase their poewer they came to conflict with the kings. Kings thought that they should be able to pick bishopsin their contries. Yet popes thought that they wher the only ones to chose the religous officals.Thye fight over the right of who can chose the bishops still continued even after Henry and Gegory died. In 1122 a new pope and emmpere reached a comprimise. All bishops where choosen but they had to follow the rules.
